Appeals Procedure

To establish your grade, a complex process of marking and quality assurance procedures is implemented.

This ensures that the grade that you have been awarded is fair and is a true reflection of the work that you have submitted.

However, if you don't feel that you have been awarded a grade that reflects your hard work, there is an established procedure that you should follow:

Initial Concern

Your first point of contact on any matter such as this is with you assessor, who will present you with further feedback on how the grade has been reached. If you are still not satisfied with this then you go Stage 1 appeal.

Stage 1

This is a formal written request that the work that you have submitted and that you feel has been incorrectly marked should be re-assessed. In your written submission, you should explain why you feel that this is the case with reference to your assignment materials, performance criteria and evidence indicator. You should also explain why the feedback you have already received does not provide a satisfactory resolution to this.

Stage 2

On receipt of your submission, you will receive a letter acknowledging your appeal and that the matter will be investigated, together with a written response of the finding of the investigation returned to you within 21 days receipt of the letter. The work that you have submitted will then be remarked by a new assessor then internally verified and the findings of this will be sent to you.

At this stage the following can happen:

Stage 3

This is the final stage of the appeal process and only occurs when you are not happy with the result from Stage 2.

At Stage 3, you would request in writing a review of the:

Again, in your written request for Stage 2 you should outline why you are dissatisfied with the result of the appeal process at Stage 2.

The matter will then be investigated by a senior and impartial reviewer who has no role in the proceedings up to this stage.

Within 14 days you will have a full and final response to your appeal.

In the event that you are not satisfied then the final recourse you have is to approach the awarding body City and Guilds. Information on this will be supplied with the final statement at Stage 3.
